The Wheel of Awareness

Writer: positiveintelligenpositiveintelligen

The Wheel of Awareness is a meditation tool created by Dr. Dan Siegel. It serves as a metaphor and visual representation of how the mind operates.

Here’s how it works:

1.    Hub of Awareness: The hub represents awareness itself—the part of our mind that knows and observes. It’s the center from which we can direct our attention.

2.    Rim of the Known: The rim contains everything we can become aware of—our thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, memories, and external stimuli. Each point on the rim represents an aspect of our experience.

3.    Spoke of Attention: The spoke connects the hub to the rim. It symbolizes our ability to focus our attention on different points along the rim. By directing our attention, we integrate consciousness and explore various dimensions of our inner and outer worlds.

Dr. Siegel offers different versions of the Wheel of Awareness practice, including basic, full-length, and consolidated versions. These practices help us cultivate mindfulness, self-awareness, and a deeper understanding of consciousness1. Give it a try—it’s a powerful tool for personal growth! 🌀🧘‍♂️
